Emma Wilson reports on her week of Year 10 Work Experience at Preseli.
I had to choose a place for my Year 10 Work Experience and I felt that Preseli would be a great place to work because I knew I would gain a lot of experience in many areas. On my first day, even though my dad is the Managing Director at Preseli and my uncle works here too, I felt quite anxious and nervous but as soon as I walked into the office, I immediately felt comfortable because of how welcoming and friendly everyone was. On the first day, I learnt a lot about editing the Preseli website and adding extra information and detail on certain products. I also created an E-shot on promoting pens in the clearance category.
My second day was slightly less exciting but I still gained experience by unpacking numerous boxes of clear pencil cases and the following day, I had to re-pack them! It is definitely something I don’t really enjoy doing but I learnt that you don’t always get to do the things you want to do at work. I also continued to edit the Preseli website which made me understand how quickly time passes when you are trying to complete all your work! On my third day, I had to re-pack the never-ending number of clear pencil cases and I also sorted out samples in the factory along with my dad.
On the fourth day, I wrote an article (well, I tried to) and I was allowed to use a phone to call customers, which was an exciting and scary situation because I never know what I’m going to say! I also went through samples with my dad which had been taking up quite a lot of space in the office. On my final day, I felt sad that I had to say farewell to the office (for now) but I felt very grateful for the effort everyone made to make me feel welcome and part of the team. I feel that I have gained a lot of experience working at Preseli, in a variety of ways and I will definitely use all of my experience when I start working in the future.
‘Emma did a tremendous amount of work during her week at Preseli and we really enjoyed having her as part of the team. It was great to see her confidence grow and for her to experience many different aspects of working in a busy office. Emma actually wrote two articles and both of them are terrific. So a huge thank you to you Emma for all your hard work.’ Mike Wilson, Marketing Manager.
